Software Quality Assurance Developer, Assessment

Esri Canada has an exceptional opportunity for a QA/QC Specialist to join our Assessment department.

Reporting to the Director, Software Development, this role supports the development and quality control of enterprise software products through structured testing, defect management, and collaboration with crossfunctional development teams. This role focuses on executing defined quality assurance activities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives under established processes and guidance. The position provides an opportunity to further develop technical QA skills while supporting missioncritical testing processes using the Microsoft Azure DevOps platform.

This role is fully remote within Canada.

A day in the life of a Software Quality Assurance Developer at Esri Canada:

  • Executes test cases (manual and automated) based on established test plans to validate product functionality, performance, and usability.
  • Participates in a range of testing activities, including unit, integration, regression, UI/UX, and user acceptance testing, with guidance from more senior QA resources.
  • Records, documents, and tracks defects using Azure DevOps or similar tools, ensuring issues are clearly described and reproducible.
  • Supports defect triage activities by validating fixes and re testing resolved issues.
  • Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of test cases, test data, and testing documentation.
  • Collaborates with developers, QA team members, and implementation teams to clarify requirements and expected system behaviour.
  • Contributes to quality metrics reporting by providing accurate testing status and defect information to the reporting manager or senior QA staff.
  • Follows established QA/QC standards, processes, and best practices to support consistent product quality.

 

     General Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in company, staff or individual one-on-one meetings on an ongoing basis for the purposes of effective teamwork, enhanced communication and progressive co-operation strategies within the company as well as other departments across the company.
  • Continually contribute to the profitability of the company and ongoing business operations by initiating, recommending and implementing continuous improvement strategies and initiatives.
  • Conduct any general duties, specific job projects and responsibilities as assigned or required by the Director or Esri Canada management in a timely and professional manner.

 

    Minimum Education Requirement:

  • University degree in computer science or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:

  • 1-3 years of experience supporting software development or quality assurance activities for GIS or IT applications.
  • Foundational technical knowledge of .NET/C#, ASP.NET MVC/Core, modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, Angular, TypeScript/JavaScript), and SQL Server.
  • Exposure to CI/CD environments and development workflows, preferably within Microsoft Azure and Visual Studio.
  • Familiarity with the ArcGIS platform, ESRI geodatabases, or geospatial concepts is considered an asset.

 

    Additional Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of software testing principles, with hands-on experience in manual testing and exposure to automated testing tools.
  • Ability to identify, document, and communicate defects with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking and test management practices within an Agile or iterative development environment.
  • Developing analytical and problem-solving skills applied to troubleshooting and quality assessment.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks and priorities within defined timelines, with guidance as required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with technical and non-technical team members.

This role offers a base salary range of $73,700 to $87,500 annually, determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
